Background information
The Chinese Government and the European Union have been successfully cooperating in the field of aviation. The EU-China Civil Aviation Summit held from 30 June – 1 July 2005 was an important event at which the importance of continued civil aviation cooperation was highlighted. Vice-president of the European Commission at the time of the summit, Jacques Barrot summarized the findings as follows: “Aviation has an immense virtue: it brings our people closer together, promotes economic growth and facilitates trade. The aviation sector plays a crucial role in the wider economic development of society, within Europe, within China and, of course between Europe and China. Sharing our respective experiences and ensuring the good and sustainable development of the Chinese and European aviation industry is, in my view, of the utmost importance if we want to develop further our political, human and economic ties.”
